Mt. Heat Exhaustion

My boyfriend and I thought that it would be a great idea to try out Mt. Bonnell (Austin, Tx) after walking around SXSW downtown. This was a great IDEA.. JUST IDEA... and this is our adventure.

Here is a photo shot by my lovely significant other. I may look like I'm enjoying the scenes.. and really taking them in with the canon. BUT REST ASSURED, I AM NOT. This is near the point of my near up-chuck. It's the hottest day it's been in a while (90) and I was way too overheated at this point. The ingenious idea of wearing a black shirt, my hair down, and it being my first time doing an activity in the heat in awhile, was all the ingredients to this disaster. The damn rock "stairs" climbing the side of this mountain weren't as bad as I imagined... however, they raised my heart rate higher than I was anticipating and the ice cream that I had eaten prior, began to feel the heat. The ice cream aaaand that BLT I had. (Which was delicious ! I'll tell you about the place later on).

Here is a more of an accurate capture of my un-enthused expression. This photo was captured near 15 minutes before I told my boyfriend that it was a must that we left.. before my BLT and Ice cream made a reappearance. Soon after this realization, we quickly jogged back down the trail / stairs and into the car. This is where he was my hero and blasted the AC and snatched my hat off to cool me down. What a lovely boyfriend. If we would've stayed up there ten minutes longer, I would've definitely been in an awful state. "I know you guys are trying to enjoy these amazing views, but have a view of my regurgitated lunch". At least it would've been the prettiest place that I have thrown up. I mean, check out the views of downtown Austin from there:

and of course, my company was just as amazing...

Since my blogs are supposed to be at least semi informative.. here is some information on Mt. Bonnell:

According to Lani Alvarez on Rootsrated:

Although the actual main hiking path is pretty short, measuring just about 0.3 miles, there is a nearly 200-foot elevation gain from the bottom of the stairs to the top—so rest assured, your blood will definitely be pumping. Because of this, Mount Bonnell is an ideal place for trail runners to get a speedy yet effective workout. Most people, however, hike the same short trail section up and back—but you can follow the trail around and down for a slightly different, less crowded return to the bottom of the parking area. Additionally, a few smaller side trails lead off the main trail between bushes and zigzag across various sections of the park. They also lead closer to the cliff-side in some spots, providing unique viewing experiences that not every tourist will see. Note that these are not “authorized” trails, per se, so caution is advised when moving towards the edge into potentially dangerous spots.

Here are the rest of the photos I had taken on this "journey":

SO, the question is: is it worth it?!

Yup. Even though I almost vomited and was grumpy and gross.. I enjoyed the views and the time spent with my love.

Thank you again for reading this post and be sure to check out the rest!
